im new to this and im trying to find out how many is to many. right now i have RIR, LIGHT BRAHMAS, AMERACANAS, AND BLACK STARS. i have a farely good size coop its 16x16 and with an 8x8 hen house. do i need to get rid of a breed or lessen my flock, all im doing is getting eggs. right now we have close to 17 hens and one crazy RIR rooster. need some help what do i need to do.

From what I understand and for healths sake that sounds like room for 13 maybe 14 birds going by 10 sq feet per bird min. I keep several breeds together as well with no problems though.I enjoy the variaty.:)

4 sq ft per standard size bird inside the coop is minimum IF each bird has 10 sq ft of run space. 17 standard birds is maximum for your set up and sounds great. I have 10 mixed sized chickens in a 40 sq ft coop with a 330 sq ft run and they free range daily from noon til dark.I don't think there are 2 breeds alike in there. I LOVE a mixed flock.
