30 birds on 2.3 acres? Oh brother that is absurd!

You can easily handle up to 200 on that size acreage. Your neighbor is just trying to be a royal pain and is succeeding. Just look happy and wave at the dipsy doo dah, it will drive him nuts!

I have 35 on only half an acre and they have no impact on it. This what I have to say to your neighbor, pfffft.

You are not a hoarder! Your neighbors are frankly busy bodies, with too much time on their hands. Tell them to get over it! Well in a nice way.........

thank you so much everyone. I have decided I will cull some roosters by rehousing them to friends. I will give one roo and food for winter then buy them two babies or give two babies if mine have more this spring... my goal is a tottal of 25 birds and two roo's one is for back up in case one dies... my roo's all get along it is strange. maybe becuse they are cochin's they are docile and loved to be held and they have there favorite girls but it is funny to watch the ones low on the totoem poel try to mate the hens beat them up...... and the head roo chases them off I tell ya that roo is so funny I dotn think he even get to mate much he finds them all treats, ie worms and bugs in the yard and keeps others from bugging his ladies and is just always patrolling so I dont see him mate much but he must becuse all the new babies have his color and stuff... good to talk this stuff over I hate thinking my neighbors are talking bad about me but really it is there problum so I will just try to be more umm postitive shall we say when I talk with them...

I have close to 30 chickens. We live on 5 acres, but they stick to about 1-1.25 acres that they free range on. I don't think that *I* have too many chickens, they spread out pretty well. They certainly aren't crammed, that's for sure!

Just kidding. Sort of.

But seriously, I don't think 30 on over 2 acres is too many. As long as their housed and fed well and have proper hygiene and aren't disturbing anyone else then the neighbours have nothing to be up in arms about. I definitely don't think you're a chicken hoarder, or approaching one. Maybe if the neighbours had 30 chickens they'd have less time to worry about what the other neighbours are doing. Man, I thought in rural areas you were able to do away with petty neighbour annoyances, I thought it was a city thing
