How many chickens are we allowed in Escondido?

I'm in a single family detached home on an 8,000 approx sf lot -- in the R1 zone. I've been trying to get a straight answer from City Hall but without any success.

I think we are either allowed 3 or 6 chickens but no roosters. Can anybody confirm this?

Here in Escondido R1 zone, we are allowed to have 6 hens but no roosters
