So I am not alone! Great!. In my bedroom I have my female Silkie brooding in a rubbermaid tub on 4 of her eggs. The daddy Silkie is also here (currently he is sleeping on one side of my bed) There are also 2 little blue d'Uccle girls here that I brought in from the hen house because they had been picked on and lost too many feathers (they are still a little scruffy but starting to look better) These, except for the broodie girl wear diapers I make full time. One d'Uccle is a bit flighty and hard to catch to change but fine when caught. Most days she lays her egg in the diaper and runs around with it all day long.
In the living room is my sweet little bantam Cochin who has been broody for a long time, but losing eggs until I moved her into the living room and she hopped up on me in the recliner then hollered for me to get her egg too. After a couple days I gave her more fertile eggs in a basket so I can hold her on my lap or put her down which is working out great. Then in the bathroom are 4 chicks that are about 5-6 weeks old. There little Japanese bantam momma got tired of them and is now back in the hen house. So that makes 5 full grown and 4 big chicks with more soon to come. If the temperatures were normal and we didn't have a couple feet of snow there would be less in the house .......probably...........or maybe. I also have 3 silkie boys on the front porch sleeping in a dog carrier. Fifteen in the hen house, and about 8 or 10 in the stall with our horse, plus a breeding pair in a mini coop, keeping out of the snow. My DH is not a happy camper. Got to make more diapers including chick size now.
