How many chickens will fit in this coop & run?

8" x 43" adds up to about 2.3 square feet. So you would be best off doubling that with additional venting on the bottom of the roof slope. :)

IMO fresh air is one of the most important things you can do to keep your birds in good health.
Thank you so much! I will definitely work on in asap! Right now they’re still sleeping indoors but using the run in the daytime while they feather out. You’ve been so extremely helpful!

I just got some from Home Depot that I plan to install! See pic below. Ventilation is 43 inches long and about 8 inches wide. I’m in Pennsylvania in the US
May I ask, is that a prefab coop or did you have it made?
Thank you so much! It was my first time planning and building something haha!
I’ll definitely start working on an extension! I wanted to give them something comfortable sooner rather than later. They’re growing so fast!
I was going to ask if you made it or it was prefab, i have building plans for almost identical...it said "easy", but when you dont even own a saw...its not easy. I love it and think it is perfect for your 4 girls as they grow. Youll be suprised how big they get when those feathers come in. Im in PA also, with coops this size the placement of vents is tricky as you dont want drafts where they roost/sleep. If you're the type to stay on top of the litter and clean it often so its not wet/damp dirty 4 hens should not need much more. Some people do deep bedding, others prefer to clear it out weekly/ monthly. With my 3 ive found they dont soend a lot of time IN the coop. Mainly just to sleep. So i can get by changing liter monthly cleaning/poopscoop every few days. I THINK THEY'LL LOVE THEIR PRETTY NEW HOME!

Let me tell you, I didn’t own a saw or anything before this project. I had to borrow my neighbors circular saw and then invested in a mitter saw and jigsaw myself hahaha
The men at home depot ended up knowing me as the chicken coop lady because I was there so often asking questions about wood and whatnot.
You can do it! It took me about 3 weeks and didn’t work on it every day and only after my regular work hours. I also forbade my husband to help me (he’s terrible at math so he would have been no help anyways). If I can do it, anyone can!

Thanks for the vote of confidence and i totally understand the wanting to do it yourself. You did an awesome job. Is the same here im the numbers person & the man of the house is the brawn, he will move a mountain as long as i tell him where it goes, cuz he learned ill only complain if its an inch to the left and have to move it again anyway. What breed chickens do you have? Are they going to be big girls?

We got an Australorp (Poppy Peridot Periwinkle), Plymouth Barred (Conchita Guadalupe Del Campo), Buff Orpington (Cheesecake) and an Olive Egger (Hoagie Elizabeth Wizwit). As a Pennsylvanian you may recognize the hoagie wizwit/wizwithout reference on Hoagie haha

I do get the wizwit reference lol have 3, a Dominique (Chubby Checker) shes very similar to your barred rock except she has a rose comb, a golden comet (GoldieClucks) and a Black star (KungPao aka NinjaB!tch) . Theyre almost 19 weeks old and Checker laid her 1st egg yesterday. We hope she makes a habit of it & teaches her sisters. Never thought I'd love chickens, but they're just as much pets as our dog & cat, but we wont eat what falls out the house pets bottom lol

I 100% relate to that! Never thought I’d be so attached to these ladies but I already love them so so much! Love those names and those breeds are beautiful!
Congrats on getting your first egg!!! Dare I say the cheesiest pun EGG-citing! Let me know how it tastes haha I’ve heard they taste amazing when fresh.
I live in Delaware County, Springfield, PA and there’s not a lot of folks with chickens around but my neighbors so far are being great sports about it and are excited so I can’t wait to bribe them further with eggs haha

I hear the Australorp are awesome layers once they get started, but they start later. The Buffs are beautiful! That was my 1st choice, but we were on a time crunch had to get what was hatching in May. She may be one of your bigger girls once full grown... im not sure butv theyre so fluffy & friendly. May you be blessed with many happy clucks & eggcellent breakfasts 😉
