In Portland Oregon we can have 3 chickens without a permit but need a permit to keep more than 3. I cant seem to find how many more I can keep with a permit. Any portlanders out there know?

I'm in Oregon City, and there isn't a limit per se, just code that pertains to sanitation, pests, and noise is all. I have spoken to people in code enforcement at least three times prior to getting my birds last year, just to be absolutely certain.
I thought you could have five birds in Portland, but maybe that is with a permit. You can search city code online to verify it yourself, though. I think that would be the way to go, unless you call and speak to code enforcement yourself.

Thanks Dora's mom. I have searched the local ordinances and it just doesnt tell you how many you can have with a permit. I know the permit costs about $32 but it isnt worth all the hassle of getting a permit and having a city official snooping around just to add 1 more chicken. My coop is only 6x4 so 4 seems like all I should have in there. At some point I would like to raise a few black meated chickens for the Asian folks , but thats a topic for another day. Besides I'm squeemish about any of my precious babies being EATEN. Shudder , shudder. My coop isn't done yet because of the incessant rain we've had for months. but DS got a lot done yesterday with adding insulation , putting up siding and framing in doorways and ventilation windows. it's going to be a great chicken house when its finished.
