How many chicks will you hatch in 2026?

I am buying some chicks. I will get them in May.
I am getting 6 Rhode Island Red standard pullets and I am not yet sure how many others and what other breeds of standards I am going to get.

I am going to get these bantams: 3 Partridge Wyandotte pullets, 4 Rhode Island Red pullets, 1 Rhode Island Red cockerel, 4 Black Cochin pullets & 1 Black Cochin Cockerel.

I think this year I will try to hatch some chicks this spring from the bantams I already have but I don't know how many or what breed i am going to hatch

I'm getting 17 chicks from Meyer and hoping to hatch less than 10, preferably none as I cannot control myself when it comes to chicks. Okay, maybe less than 20 🤫, that seems more realistic, lol.
20 is definitely more realistic :ya They're so cute, how can you not?

From other farms, however, I may or may not be in talks for a spot on a waitlist for some hatching eggs out of some really gorgeous smooth-feathered Black Cochin bantams to infuse into my silkieds 😍 All dependent on price point and timing of arrival, of course, with quantity to be determined based on those factors. ;)

Just as an update, we're on for this :yesss: One dozen at least, maybe more depending on how things go. I posted more about it on my silkied Cochin breeding thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...to-the-standard.1555327/page-75#post-28977802

Soooo, I guess that puts me at ~36 chicks for this year? :D

Well, we were going to wait to start collecting for our first hatch until Sunday. But husband is worried about viability with the freezing temperatures that set in next week. So we oficially started collecting hatching eggs today!
:woot
