How many chicks?

Not sure yet, they are still hatching.

I started with 2 BO hens (rescue). Bought 4 more from a breeder. Got 6 at chick days. Lost 2 to a bobcat. Got a RIR roo. Had 36 chicks. Lost 4 hens and the roo. Bob cat again. Got a BO roo. Gave away the cockerals and sold 6 pullets. Hatched 22 BO chicks. That makes a total of 53. Oh I forgot I have 22 in the incubator due to hatch Palm Sunday. Gotta luv that chicken math.

I figured I'd start out with 12.

So I went to the first TSC and they had RIR's and BR's.
I got 2 RIR's and 3 BR's.

Then I went to the second TSC on the way home, and they had Australorps and Easter Eggers!
I got 6 Australorps and 3 Easter Eggers.

So I was at my limit and quite happy.

Then I met a local breeder who happened to have Silkies and d'Uccles.
Duh!
So I got 3 Silkies and 3 d'Uccles.

The next weekend I stopped by a poultry swap (just to look) and someone there had Polish chicks.
So I got 4 Polish chicks.

I lost one RIR when she was five days old, so that brings me to a total of 23 chicks.

And that's it for this season!!!

Welcome to your first session on "chicken math"

Started with 12, added 6, lost 8 to a predator attack, adopted 5, have 8 on order = 23....just hens for eggs. Plus I'm being offered several more free over the next few weeks.

Meat chickens (only keep them for 8 weeks), 15, then 50, then 30, and 55.

My husband and I agreed to 3 chicks and we went out and bought the first 4 together....Then I got 2 more, 3 more, 2 more, sold 4 that turned out to be roos, bought 2 more....and 2 more and my step-son brought home 4 more! So now we have 15!!!! LOL!

I started with 6 about 3 weeks ago and right now I think we have 41 but I lost a couple along the way and had to replace them and that 6 min will get you..lol We lost one the first weekend to pasty butt ( but he was bad when I got him home just didn't know it) we lost 2 bantees, 1 RIR, 1 BR that I accidently sat the gallon water jug on

I was so upset), then I lost my chipmunk guy and one blue laced red wyndotter, so out of 48 we lost 7 total, but still have a ways to go because I have some little babies still..

We started with 5...lost 2, have 5 new chicks now and 2 more coming and 7 in the incubator. We also have 5 ducks with 2 more ducklings coming. Chicken/duck math rules again......
