How many chicks?

we started out with 27...this time last year...

I have 30 hens, 1 rooster, 25 meaties, 129 pullets 1-3 weeks in age,

Actually- I lost 1 and bought 4 more, so wouldn't they need 8?!

I started off with a mail order of 25, 5 different breeds, all pullets. Then I got notice that it would be the end of May before they arrived, and I just couldn't wait. So I went to TSC and got 12 red pullets and 6 straight run SS. We lost one Red the first night - then I sold 5 of the pullets to another new chick farmer here in the area, so I was down to my initial "ideal" of 12 with 2 of the SS looking like roos.

Then I found Black Australorps at Meyers after reading about their smaller minimum on here -- and they'll be here on the 26th.

Hubby asked how big he should build the coop .... I said as big as possible ????

You folks weren't kidding about the addiction factor!

I originally started out with 4, many, MANY years ago. Then it sort of grew. I increased it a little each year but not going overboard because then you can always have cute chicks xD Now though, I leave the chicks to the hens. Not unless I'm in need of more I'll find a breeder.
