How many Coturnix could fit in a 24" x 24" rabbit cage?

I don't have them in it anymore but they were perfectly happy.I had external feeders and waterers along with a big sandbox filled up everyday with usually a hanging lettuce head or something leafy from the roof.

It depends on the total size of the pen and what kind of 'accessories' you'll have in there. My coturnix are in a pen that is approximately 3' x 8'. There are 23 (24?) birds in the pen, a gallon waterer, and 2 long chick feeders. There is room for at least 10 more coturnix if I got crazy enough to need more

The most I've ever kept in a 2x2 pen was 6, and they got along okay. 2-5 is a better number for that size of pen. I've also had some in a 2x4 pen, up to 14 birds. They had plenty of room in that one.

I lean more towards the .5 sq. ft. rule than the 1 sq. ft. rule, I just don't think they need that much space. Though I"m sure they wouldn't mind it

Well. they'd not be in there long anyway. A friend offered us a nice guinea pig/rabbit hutch with run I am planning on using for the quail. I'm going to start the operation with the four hens which are three Texas A&M and one Brown Coturnix . Then I want to buy a male A&M for them so I can breed A&M for meat ( heard quail is tasty!) and then I was going to buy a bunch of Jumbo Brown hatching eggs so I could have enough eggs to sell and butcher the males. Sorry for rambling on and on.......thanksfor answering my question! Now I have a stupid one: do quail need nestboxes?
