Bagendhens, I love them! If I had my choice of the three breeds, I'd stick with the CC, however I am bias too.... the Fila is an exceptional guard dog, but traditionally very one person oriented, probably not a good family dog. I don't know much about the Boerboel personally. But I have friends that own them. But, back to the CC. They're an extremely intelligent, loyal and willful and yet willing breed. I've had lots of different kinds of dogs and there is nothing like a CC they're different some how.

You may find, that most reputal breeders, will not want to sell a pup to you if you don't have prior large dominant breed experience. They do tend to have the same large breed issues, hip displasia etc... you have to do alot of homework with the breeders and only go with reputibal one, not the one that's closest or cheapest or makes claims. For example there is a guy out there that uses other people's dogs photos on his site and sells crap for dogs. You should expect to pay $1500- $3000 for a dog +shipping etc.. more for show or breeding quality. You will want or be expected to go to puppy classes and obedience training. They need to be heavily socialized. They are slower to mature than an average dog and you will need to be comfortable with establishing dominance with the pup at a young age and as he matures. (I did it once to Bruna as a pup, stil have the scar on my ear, and never had another issue with her)

But - they will also be the best friend you'll ever have. They will want to be with you all the time and can be very klingy. They're dependable and very versital and protective. Many are used in herding and cattle management, protection, obedience, ralley sports and weightpulling, we have a few as police/narcotic dogs. And if you watch that degree deoderant commercial, the one with the perfume spray, the dog in that is a CC! I have trained one of mine to pull a riding cart.

The biggest problem with the CC's I can see to day is all the people breeding that shouldn't be, and there are some with temperment issues like aggression and shyness, etc.. however most of this I take with a grain of salt as many times, it's just because the owner couldn't establish themselves or don't know how to train a dog. I have a foster dog (that we adopted) who was turned in to rescue because he was biting them when he saw another dog. The dog just wanted to play, and was biting out of frustration.. On our first "walk" we went by a neighbor dog and he tried going after me, with the right correction applied, he's never done it again!

So I don't soak up all the band width on this forum, you can contact me through my web site or PM me. www.valorcanecorsos.com
I lost my male 2 yrs ago, so the web site is stuck in mourning status. There is an enter button near the bottom.

I figure I'd better post just to up that number quite a bit!

2 German Shepherds
2 Chihuahuas
2 Papillons
1 beagle
1 Great Dane
1 doberman/border collie cross (poor fellow, he's the most wonderful dog in the world, but is 16 1/2 with a fatal, inoperable heart tumor--but he's still going!)
3 English bulldogs

so add my 12 + everyone else's 1148 and our new total is:

1160!
