In the spring I can get one a day from each hen, if they are young (1 or 2) and the weather is nice. That is not cold or hot and sunny. I got a lot of eggs this spring. When the days shorten, you will get few to no eggs on some days. Same in the summer when the days a very hot. In addition, storms, fireworks, loud noises, can put them off laying.
As the hens get older they lay less frequently until you rarely see an egg from them. Most folks cull before then. I have one hen left that is a part of the original frock from 2000 and I keep her because she's my only chicken I consider a "pet".
About half my layers are Austrolorps. The others are Barred Rocks. They are prolific layers when conditions are ideal. Love those big brown eggs.
