how many eggs can fit under a silkie?

I have silkies but i havent tried to hatch any chicks out but i heard from somewhere that chickens do better with an odd number of eggs. Makes them easier to turn or somethin...

I've got a silkie who is wanting to be broody - tried stealing the other broody's eggs...SO I let Taffy (buff silkie) have some eggs to stave her off till I get my hatching eggs in...BUT this AM i go out, and she and Snowball (other broody - white silkie) have combined their nests - and the two are sitting on 14 eggs.

I switched out the 'newest eggs' without markings on them for golfballs until my mille fleur eggs get here hopefully tomorrow.

my hen is sitting on 5 standard eggs, and 2 silkie eggs. would she be able to hatch them if i put 4 more standard and 2 more silkie? or should i take some out?

i plan on cramming some turkey eggs under my silkie hen, was thinking 3 or 4 depending - and turkey eggs are like XXL LF eggs. I'd imagine she could handle quite and number of silkie sized eggs.

Many years ago I had to small LF / lg banty hens share a nest and hatch out 36 chicks... 100% hatch rate.

This is helping me! thanks..I have a little cochin hen sitting on eggs...others would crowd the nest with her and lay, then another hen went brody in the next box over, now others are crowding in and still laying with that one! There is at least 20 eggs under the cochin and no it looks like a 3rd hen has gone brody and is sharing the nest with the cochin! Which is good I guess because the cochin can use help with 20 eggs! now I have to figure what hens to move..do I leave the ones on the eggs where they are or move them and their eggs where the other hens can't add any more eggs! And if I move them do I move both the cochin and the hen that is sitting with her...or just the cochin? any ideas??

I have a white silky that was broody and we gave her 11. Some hatched two weeks ago and she kicked out last 6, so we incubated them and they hatched one by one, we put back in with her and chicks and she keeps them all warm! The last 3 just hatched and don,t know if she can take all 11 and being so different in age? Does anyone know if i should just keep em under a light til they get their footing?also mama won,t let us handle the chicks, she attacks us even when we put in food! She turns into the exorcist, scary!
