How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yesterday I got 4/12 and I was pretty sure I had 6 layers, but it was cold the night before. This morning there were 8

Woo Hoo! I guess my talk with the "good girls" and the "slackers" made a positive impact.

Charlie our dachshund/terrier mix loves to stand around while I'm washing eggs after I bring them in. He knows that 'Ah, S***' means he gets a treat when one of the eggs breaks that I'm cleaning.. We were sitting on the couch the other night and he was dozing off by Teresa's side when I spilled something on me and said it. He jumped up, his ears were on high and he was ready to spring into action to clean up an egg...

I thought you weren't supposed to wash eggs until right before you use them because there is something on them that protects from bacteria? I am still new to this, but I thought I read that somewhere?

Yeah, I know and I don't know who, but someone is laying more than eggs in the laying boxes and it's making a mess when I bring them in. I can't very well hand someone a carton of eggs coating with chicken poop and expect them to be happy, can I???

I just rinse them under cool running water to get off pine shaving flecks and poop stains. Usually they don't poop in the boxes but every once in a while they do. Besides, they have it on their feet and then they step on the eggs and blah blah blah. The eggs don't last more than a week around here anyway so I don't worry about it too much. Now, if you're HATCHING eggs, that's a different story completely.

8/8 today. everyone wants eggs since i rehomed 10 older birds this week. be another 10 weeks before the new birds start laying. always the way. if i had 20 dozen nobody would want any.

I wait for mine to dry and then just wipe them "clean" with a paper towel. I wash them if they're very dirty and then put them to the front of the queue for eating.

We don't get enough to give away or sell many so that's not an issue!

I have 7 girls, only six are laying. Today is the first day that all six laid!!! My first egg came January 4th, and the sixth started laying two weeks ago. So I have been waiting for the day that all of my layers lay....now the next milestone will be when the seventh lays her first, and then seven eggs in one day!!!

14/20 soon the DIL's chickens will be going home and I'll then be back to 13 of my own. If I give her a couple of mine, since 2 of hers got killed by a predator, then it will be 11. I plan to either get some hatching eggs, use some of own or buy some new chicks. DW would probably forbid me to do all three of the above.
