How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

5/5 today. None in nests at 5 a.m. All collected at 10 a.m. 3 days straight of a perfect count.:ya
What's incredible is we are on day 3 of heat wave. I used a mister on day 1. Day 2 and today, I wet down half their pen after 10 a.m. gave it a good soaking. They are scratching around in the puddles. 20170720_102534.jpg
They are sitting in the puddles after the water soaks in. GC

None today - but my mixed flock is just coming of age and so far we've had 6 eggs over 4 days. One lovely olive egg day efore yesterday.

When they 1st start laying, is it sporadic? If not I may have a problem with eggs in the woods or yard (looked and haven't found any out there, but there are king snakes out there too).

Should I confine them all to the coop and fenced run until I know they know where to lay them (in the nesting boxes set up in the coop)? It's so damn hot right now I hate to do it, tho. Its up to 20 degrees cooler in the woods, and thats a big deal when its mid to high 90s.

My sex-links type of chicken laid 5/6 a week, right off the bat. I don't know about pure breeds. GC

Thanks for the replies : ). I'll assume it's just due to their being new layers, and let them have the woods during this heat wave. If I'm not seeing more eggs by early next week I'll think about locking them into the run for a few days. I can't wait until I can say I got a dozen in a day : )

are you able to get fake eggs ? place those and them in the nesting area for even a few days give the idea where you want them to lay they will go in for that

Read that advice here early on and took it, lol.

As soon as we found the 1st egg on top of the wood shavings bag we put those fake guys in the nesting boxes.

Some of the girls have been in and out of those boxes exhibiting nesting behavior, even moving the fake eggs around and leaving some of their feathers. So far no eggs laid there tho.
