Zero? Do you have snow there? Is that a factor?
We are not sure what our issue is. We average probably two-three eggs a day with the 45 chickens for some time now. We have changed multiple things trying to figure out what is causing problem.
We've created multiple areas with nest boxes. We've searched the yard fully. We've kept them in their run for a week, we've let them free range.
Most recently we have switched to a free feed setup to make sure they always have enough food. I am hoping this will fix it.
Weather is chilly but not bad. Some are moulting. But this low egg situation has been going on for months (at first we thought it was because we had so many broodies, then maybe heat, etc... Always a bunch of possible reasons but no actual eggs).
How old are they? Could that be part of it for at least some of them? My other thought would be they're eating the eggs but I highly doubt that it would be possible for them to eat that many...
I hope you're able to figure out what's going on.
I was getting lower egg numbers from my hens before I added a soaked seed mix to their daily food. They get that once daily in addition to free choice of their layer pellets and I think I've noticed a slight increase in eggs, though that is completely anecdotal and may not be the case for everyone.
18 were born this spring (barnyard mix).
15 were store bought last year.
The rest are a mix of previous generations from over the many years we've had chickens.
We had 2 roosters before this year, and gained another 5 of the 18 this year (so 7 total) so we may have too many roosters but honestly it doesn't appear they are fighting or visibly stressed about it.
We do not believe they are being eaten by chickens as we know the tell tale signs. It is possible the doggos may eat stray eggs but that's why we tried closing them up for awhile to see if count changed at all and it didn't.
My wife bought a bag of feed specifically for fermenting as an additive diet but we haven't tried that yet
