She's a beauty! What is her breed? And no, she doesn't look a day over 3!
I hope you do too! Please keep us updated! You are correct! At first I put 20 eggs under a broody duck I had, and I think 10 of them were hers. 3 others were from an older hen, and 7 from younger ones. Long story short the duck broke 8/12 eggs from my two older hens. And all the younger hens eggs quit or were infertile.
I went out one morning to get an incubator for the remaining 5 eggs since I didn’t want them breaking. Though, there was one of her eggs that was developing, another quit, and another was infertile. The two from another hen weren’t good as they were too old of eggs.
The day after I got the incubator I left on a trip for 10 days. Came back and the developing egg had quite and of course the others weren’t good either but I just wanted to be sure. So all that didn’t go well.
And unfortunately while I was gone and some time after she didn’t lay, so I thought she was done since she usually stops in May.
BUT.
After supplementing calcium and giving high protein foods, she’s now laid 5! Currently I have 3 in the incubator, tomorrow is day 5 and I will candle and see how they look.
After I put those 3 in the incubator she has laid 2 more, and so if none in the incubator are good I’ll throw those in.
Really hoping I get some chicks.![]()
She’s beautiful! I agree she looks nowhere near a decade old, amazing!
