How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Got 3 eggs today one from my BO whom I can always depend on and two soft shelled eggs that appear to be from my two LF Buff Brahmas, they were laying right next to each other on the ground and these two ladies never leave eachother's side...I call them tweedle dee and tweedle dum since the one seems to get left behind on a regualr basis when out and about. I also have two light brahmas who have been less than productive so far. But now that everyone is in the game things should improve. so 3/5 for today.

8 from 8 today, for the first time!!

We are planning on adding on at least 6 more in the spring but we are undecided about which breed. We like brown egg layers, so I'm considering one or two more Barred Rocks and some australorps....anyone have suggestions. We definitely are looking for good layers and good disposition , friendly birds a must!

My Speckled Sussex girls are sweeties, and the Partridge 'rocks a close second. The SS's are inquisitive, vocal (not to the point of being annoying) and easy to handle. One of the PR's will jump on my back to "cuddle" when I bend down to gather eggs from the nest boxes. Both of these would be great with the kids. Either of these should work well in your climate, which is similar to mine here in central New Hampshire. I'm very pleased with both breeds.

My SS's have the best personalities of all my birds, I will always have them in my flock, but they're not the best layers. . "Good" layers can be subjective. depending on your priorities. I don't want production birds, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little by way of production to have traditional breeds. . My SS lay about 4 eggs a week, slightly less than my Barred Rocks and Australorps, and their eggs tend to be on the medium side.
