Are these blood specks?They rubbed off.The egg is wet in the pic and is from new layers.

Matt, if you put hydrogen peroxide on a blood stain, it will bubble. However, I'm not sure if it will also bubble when in contact with normal egg pigment. Could try it on a freshly laid egg for a "rule out".

Curtains are awesome! This is a black and white picture, because it's at night, in the dark coop taken from my infrared coop camera, but you can see the curtains on the nesting boxes. They are simply cut to size, then stapled onto the wood. The curtains are the insulated room darkening kind. I bought them from the thrift store.

I like your curtains. i need to do something for my top 2 nest boxes which are "too open" for the girl's liking. I'm sure that will be on my spring "coop tweak" list.

I'll be checking my count when I get home. I have so many eggs from the last few days that I'll be pickling a whole bunch again tomorrow.

I have had a tough time with chicken math when posting the egg counts. I had to think carefully,when counting. I count by breed when I inventory them at night, so the total has been lost. Counting the chickens in the coop goes like this as I am counting each breed: 5 leghorns, 6 red stars, 1 banty, 4 Cream Legbar hens, 2 roos, Etc Etc....

I always say I have 31 chickens total, but it is 32! 30 girls plus 2 boys! Chicken math!

Ducks:
0/3/3

We are busy cross fencing, so, the chickens will no longer have access to the sheds, porch, under the porch, the shop and the gardens.....I find eggs in funny places, they don't all go in the nesting boxes. I'll be curious to see if my egg count goes up after they have less hiding places. My husband is sure there is a HUGE egg nest somewhere in his shop, so we shall see! Hopefully, the cross fence will be done by tomorrow night!!! I need this fence for my sanity, I am tired of chicken poop on my porch in front of the front door!!!
