Thanks. Its amazing how somthing so basic as a chicken egg can bring so much excitement! I am officially a "Chicken Hugger"

I almost had my first dozen! All my blue egg layers laid today. The two to the right are from Easter Eggers. I wasn't sure what colors they would lay and I'm glad it wasn't brown. I already have several brown layers. The blue ones to the left are Cream Legbar eggs.

Oooooo, I want my egg carton to look that beautfully colorful! Digging the olive color one. One of my EE's is supposed to give olive eggs. She isnt laying yet. Should happen any day.

It is because the short photoperioda, the length of the day light period in the 24 hours period.

8 inches of snow yesterday, 6 Fahrenheit at 5am. Chickens will not come out of coop. Collected 2 eggs. 15 Fahrenheit at 9am, real feel 6 F. Chickens still in coop, very happy to see me. I petted them, held 3, 2 don't like to be held. I coax 3 to venture under the coop with scratch grains but got their fill and back into the coop they went. Collected 3 eggs. 5/5 today. At 12:30pm its 17 F and sunny, chickens still in coop. First time this winter my girls are not outside the coop and I don't blame them. GC

Chicken eggs 2 found

Temps were rather chilly as it rained today just enough to make a person turn on the windshield wipers and yep the roads still flooded as the rock and sand did not know what to do with all the water so it goes to the low points and sits there . Anyway the ducks and geese had a great time today running around making noise and the chickens had to be herded to shelter as they don't have the scents to get in out of the weather and would frees at night if wet .

New high 2, mine won't leave the coop if it's raining

5/10 (7 are laying now). No green egg today, but I found another egg at lockdown yesterday so that makes 5 for yesterday too.
