How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Hi Everyone! I’m back from the 3 week vacation. It was fantastic! But still happy to be back home.

New chicken sitters (neighbor family) did an awesome job with the girls. They went above and beyond as that darn Dorian threatened while we were gone. Thankfully for us it didn’t land like predicted.

Because of the storm threat I had the sitter add the leghorns back into the main flock (I wasn’t confident their coop was sturdy enough to withstand hurricane winds). And once the storm passed Lily went broody AGAIN and it was easier to use the leghorn coop as broody jail. After that it was only a week until I came home so wasn’t worth having the sitters separating the leghorns back out.

Fingers crossed I may be able to keep everyone together now. The leghorns still kick hens out of the nest box but maybe not as bad as they have in the past. Watching to see how it goes.

It seems they still feather pick each other as 3 of the 4 have bare patches on their chests. I haven’t had time to do a thorough health check on everyone so not sure if there’s other bare patches yet.

Did get 15 eggs today out of the 17 hens so pretty thrilled with that. All 4 leghorns laid with good shells which was not the case before I left for vacation. I don’t have good reports of what was laid while I was gone. As that’s a lost info I’m starting fresh as if today.

Bad news is something in the coop or run is giving me a rash on my arms! I had this before I left but thought it was due to something else. Now it’s clear it’s something in the hen area. Going to spray the whole area with permethrin just as soon as I can in case it’s mites. Grr.

Welcome back! I'm glad you had a great vacation! I'm sorry that you are allergic to something in your coop or run. :hmm
Hopefully you can figure it out quickly and eliminate whatever it is.

I only got 9 eggs today.
I did not even get a chance to look at my garden today! I had PT in the morning, then ran some errands. I did pick up 7 pounds of apples and another 20 + pound box of tomatoes.
I started burning a 3.5 foot stump that has been in the yard forever! I'll be working on that for many days.
After dinner I started prepping the tomatoes. I found 20 plum tomatoes in the bottom of the box, so I kept the out separate. So far, I have canned 10 pints of tomatoes and have about another 8 to 10 more to do tomorrow.
Then I can do something with the plum tomatoes.
I already know that I'm going to make more apple pie jam with the apples.

I wasn't happy with the flavor or texture of the zesty salsa I made the other day. :hit
I won't make that one again. But you don't know until you try.
Tomorrow night I'm going to the Cardinal baseball game!!:love My Mom was supposed to go, but fortunately, she realized that she isn't able to do that yet. She's still recovering from her surgery & doing rehab. A friend of mine is going to go with me.
I do need to check the green beans and cherry tomatoes tomorrow.

It's such a disappointment when you get an EE that lays brown or beige instead of blue, green or olive.
Yes it sure will be if that was hers! Especially considering how long she’s made me wait! She is checking out the nest boxes again this morning, and I heard her cluck a little. She’s been nearly silent so far, very shy of me and submissive to all the other chickens.
