How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I can relate to the "Why they don't use any of the other nesting boxes". Mine climb in with the hen that's in a box and squeeze their big tushes in there, lol.
All my RIRs lay first thing in the morning also. Funny.
Ya know, oddly, 4 out of the last 6-7 days I go to let the girls out,(between 6 & 6:45) or my husband or granddaughter will and Penny, one of the RIR's, has already laid one but they are broken. I put a nesting box in the area by their roost bars hoping that she'd use it on the days she lays so early before we get there. It seems that she's laying it from the roost!! They all are broken and the yolk or whats left of it is on top of the box. Today I moved the nesting box away from the roost. So tomorrow we'll see.
In the past we find the intact egg in the straw. Is it odd for them to lay an egg from the roost??
Occasionally I get to the coop before she has laid and she rushes to be first into the other more popular box. She has laid some HUGE eggs too. Double yokers!! It's always the RIR's too.
My BO and my barred rock are 9 and 10 mos and their daily eggs are still fairly small. But we are getting 3-4 eggs a day most days since they started laying.

My oldest hen, Cookie, is a barred rock. She, of all my hens, would be broody. Ive had 6 nesting boxes available since before any of my 4 hens started laying.
Before my big 4 x 8 ft coop was built we had a small 4x2? store bought coop with an attached nesting box that divided into 2 boxes. They have to climb a plank to get in it and as they got bigger the nesting area got smaller so I removed the divider. It now fits one hen quite comfortably. Some days one hen is in the "waiting area" to get her time in the nest. Lol.
My question is why they dont use any of the other nesting boxes??
Just because they simply prefer the more private darker one? One hen, a RIR, lays the first egg early in the morning near the roost. The other 3 lay one after the other in the nesting box.
Try putting one of those fake eggs in the boxes. I know that my birds tend to gravitate to the nest that already has an egg in it.

I have no idea... 8 maybe? Any tips for lots of eggs? This is my egg basket right now.
