How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

6 today and possibly a new layer. I have 6 pullets that are between 16-17 weeks old. The barred rock is growing in her big girl comb and wattles and acting a little funny. No singing that I’ve noticed but just a little on edge like she is confused or scared of something. Today I found an egg outside the nest box.
My girls are really good about using the boxes. Last week when I cleaned the coop two of them stared at me the whole singing and waddling around with their legs crossed trying not to drop an egg. When I was done the both ran to the boxes to lay true eggs.

Anyway the egg was the right color for a barred rock but looked to be a little larger than I expected a first egg to be. Smaller than average chicken egg size but bigger than I remember first eggs being.

Anyway I looked her over and her vent definitely looked wet and stretchy to me so if she isn’t laying she is pretty close.

I put eggs in my apron pocket, come inside and deal with them immediately. Date the end, put them in a container and right into the fridge. I forgot an egg in a jacket pocket ONCE. Now I only put them in the apron so I don't forget.

7 eggs today, which included the blue egg I didn’t see from the one Azur yesterday. I grabbed a fork full of straw/hay mix and threw it into my Arabian mare’s stall and doink there bounced a blue egg! Didn’t even break haha! Glad I didn’t stick a fork tine through it!

Darn those Azurs I am having trouble getting them to lay in the nest boxes.

Well, I got 8 out of 8 today, but one was broken in the nest, and another broke in my hand when I was washing it. Here are the eggs I haven't eaten from the last four days. Some are pretty dang big!

I think it was last summer, I had a handful of eggs I had just collected when a wasp decided I was it's sworn enemy. I had eggs flying everywhere trying to get away from that thing. None made it into the house, but I did manage to not get stung.

I broke an egg accidentally for the first time this week. It slipped out of my hand, and I was able to grab it before it fell far... but I smacked it against a metal object. Oops.
