I have one barred rock pullet just over 6 months old. She is still a freeloader. She might have laid one last week but never got any more eggs I couldn’t link to my Wyandottes so I’m still not sure who laid the mystery egg. I hope once mine starts going she’ll be a good layer.View attachment 3723391

Well, I guess it was about time my girls took a break. I got 4 eggs today from the squawking seven.

I went down to the store to grab some Coors and picked up a box of produce trimmings from the loading dock for the chickens... napa, red and green cabbage leaves and broccoli crowns, which they're starting to like quite a bit!

normally my chic's are done laying before early dec. here. even the spring of the year ones. i got 6 R.I Reds and 6 copper marans from T.S.C in early June. the copper marans surprisingly started to lay 1st in mid sept. and all at once. the R.I Reds only a few and only started in late oct. im still getting 4-5 eggs a day and its mostly the c. marans. ive had chics for 40yrs and I've never still got eggs past dec. i dont use lights or heat. it must be our mild weather. we haven't had a night below 0 and usually have had quite a few by now.

Same here - I feel the mild weather is the reason for the pullets and hens laying at this time of year.

3 today! Juin, Juillet and Août.

Juin’s egg was from last night I believe.

Juillet is now using the nest box that Août uses, with the pine flake bedding instead of grass. This makes it harder to determine whose egg is whose since they’re both Cuckoo Marans. Still, I’m glad Juillet won’t be pushing little Juin out of her favorite nest box anymore.

Mei took another day off… It’s been five days since her last egg was laid.
