1 today from Juin

I finally got my overwintering vegetables under a row cover, so I let the chickens into the garden today. It was 28° outside but they were having a ball scratching through my garden beds and mulched pathways. The pullets haven’t realized the joy of scratching for grubs yet, but they helped me find all the dry bean pods I’d missed harvesting, so they did their part!

Marzo, my Dominique pullet, has just discovered the oyster flakes… won’t be long now!

I like this drawing - the chicken is so proud! - but the eggs kinda look like potatoes. I did not get any potatoes today, just ten eggs!
