How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

12/19 yesterday and 11 today. I've finally confirmed that all of my BJG are laying and I can tell who laid what. Just waiting on 2 more girls to lay, specifically my frizzle who will be a year old at the end of the month. Her comb is red and floppy so I see no reason why she won't lay, maybe I got unlucky and she's one of those weird hens that never lay.

Ten plus one of the Bielefelders gave us our first fairy egg!

Ohhhhh this is a genius idea -- would chicks get stuck between the little cooling rack rows?

I always think about naughty chicks jumping on everything and what might happen.

This is why I'm just like, aw hell I will just replace lots of bedding every day lol

But I consider this, because I'm thinking even if they did jump up there, they'd get unstuck pretty easily. They also aren't unsupervised all day, we are constantly in there - they probably only go a few hours without a check every day.

Thanks for this!!

edit; Just had the idea to cable tie the rack to the bottom of the waterers legs (while they are locked closed), then cable tie the rack to the bin so it's just one piece to mess with. Just need to find a bin the right size.

Honestly, sometimes, finding solutions for 'problems' for your pets/livestock is one of the most fun parts of all of it.

2nd edit; 13 eggs yesterday \o/

Ended up with 13 today

and here is the waterer -- a complete mashup job with what I had on hand; needs must!

the amount of soaking wet bedding from only 2 days from the last bedding change was ALARMING

We are going to try this for 2 more days (we also laid down trash bags under the cement blocks and under the bedding to help with the water -- the bedding is like 5-6 inches deep)

IF the water is still an issue - the ducklings will go out into a tractor near the new run. Nothing for it, gotta separate em to save the shed floor.
Looks great! I hope it works out for you!

Lost one of my hens today. 😔💔
She hadn't been laying, her last proper egg was from a year ago. She had been dealing with a bloated abdomen since June or July, it would come and go, I gave Amoxicillin every time she started filling up and so I'm guessing it helped cause it went down after a bit. The bloating was actually going down the past few days. But today I let everyone out and she was slow and acting sick. I took her in and treated her, after a couple hours she started really declining so I took her outside and laid her in the yard, since I felt she was about to pass. She passed no more than 10 minutes after putting her out there. 😢
