It is amazing, and its the first time I remember hatching! My family hatched years ago but it was too long ago for me to remember.

I was thinking of naming her June (if its a her), since she was born in June. Then I realized you have a hen named that, correct?
That is a good idea to give her a name like Hawk, I will be thinking about it! Kestrel is a good one.

June is the meaning, but not the actual name of my eldest Dominique hen. Her name is Juin (“Ju” with a french J like the sound in “beige”, and then “un” with the N sort of half-spoken). Sounds more like “Zhua” than anything. My dad doesn’t even try and calls her June, lol.

22 today

I expect them to start slowing up real fast now, the heat and humidity are up, the fans are on the chooks and the horses now all night. Still 25C (77f) and very humid, I bet they will slow down laying real fast in this heat.

I also have a couple moulting, and I imagine a few more will follow. I’ll have some sad egg customers shortly.

Collected 6 eggs today. 4 duck and 2 chicken. One of the duck eggs I found in some brush in the yard, so who knows when that was laid.

3 eggs yesterday, from Août, Marzo and Helmi

Marzo had another double-yolker!

Brelly has been trying to lay for days. I was a little concerned because she was looking tired and in pain, not moving around like her normal self. I assumed it was a soft egg, but she perked up after an hour or so and went back to normal. She didn’t lay overnight though, and she sat this morning without success again. I’m keeping a close eye on her, but maybe the heat of summer or the intense light levels are affecting her hormones.
