Got 12 today, seems like 3 or 4 of my 2yr old hens are back to business. Now if only one would go broody so I can get my chick fix the easy way.

9 today. My stock pile may finally be back to keeping up with demand from the extended family. Currently have 3 dozen fresh eggs.

A barred rock laid the one with white speckles and I'm not too sure who laid the green speckled one. I have a couple guesses and both are birds I hatched last summer. Honestly contemplating adding it to my incubator but it currently has quail eggs in there on day 4, but I also have another incubator on the way that should be here before the quail eggs hatch... I think I'm talking myself into it May as well add a couple more so it has some friends should it hatch right?

Well I did it, just popped 3 of the barred rock eggs and the one green speckled egg. I planned on hatching some of the barred rock's eggs anyways as I want some more sex linked chicks, though I'm hoping for mostly cockerels to raise as meat birds. I was tempted to add a couple more but all the eggs I have on hand are not really birds I want to hatch from, though I had lots of pretty greens and blues to pick from.

I suspect black and blue chicks from the BR, feathered legs means the blue copper maran is the dad. Clean legs and a pea comb means it's the EE mix who is also blue. Heaven forbid any come out red/orange/brown because I was supposed to be rid of that specific cockerel but I've been putting it off because it's been so cold. He doesn't know it yet but Saturday morning... it's lights out.
