How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

15 today! These gals are really going to town! My Ameraucanas are coming on line more and more although I don't think all 6 are laying yet. The Australorp pullets are all laying, but their eggs are small and round, kinda funny-looking yet. No worries, I love my little one-egg omelets! You go, Girls!

(2/16) Collected 6. 4 duck, 1 bantam, and 1 pullet. Another broken standard egg too.

(2/17) 10!! 5 duck, 1 bantam, 1 pullet, and 3 standard chicken!

(2/18) Got 12, excluding a broken standard egg!!! So 4 duck, 4 bantam, 2 pullet, and 2 standard eggs.

(2/19) Got 4, all duck. Another broken standard chicken egg though.

(2/20) Collected 8! 2 duck, 2 bantam, 2 pullet, and 2 standard. But this time there were also two broken standard eggs??

(2/21) 9. 3 duck, 2 bantam, 1 pullet, and 3 standards!

(2/22) Collected 11! 5 duck, 2 bantam, 2 pullet, and 2 standard. Though, pretty sure I had seen another standard egg, then it was gone later, so I guess someone ate it...

I have a question for anyone that might know. Does sour crop make chickens lose their balance? Darlin starts to move around and then she just sorta falls off to the side.

I have had so many issues with sour crop this past year. I have one hen right now with neurological issues which make ls me think it’s Mareks. The virus affects the vagus nerve which controls the crops movement. But also affects movement of the body. Do you know if your sweetie is vaccinated for Mareks? All my birds affect have not been vaccinated.

There is nothing you can do if it is Mareks. If she passes you can send her for a necropsy and see if it is Mareks. Then only purchase chicks or older birds that have been vaccinated for this terrible disease.

19 today which enclosed a wee Mrs Little Chicken egg. I didn’t get a whopper egg today thankfully. Poor gal who lays those suckers. I am not very happy with those high production breeds/varieties that lay eggs daily - extremely hard on their wee little bodies.

I have purchased a bunch or day old pullets for mid April - 3 silver spangled Hamburg, 3 golden pencilled Hamburg, 2 each Blue Laced Wyandotte and black Australorp, and 3 Egyptian Fayoumi - those I have read are highly resistant to Mareks and general very hardy (NOT cold hardy - healthy wise hardy).

Unfortunately for me I cannot get a Mareks Vaccine from the hatcheries here. For whatever reason they just do not vaccinate. Frustrating.

But I am hoping the Hamburg and Wyandotte do not lay daily and burn themselves out. Not sure about Australorp, or Fayoumi. If anyone has either I’d love to hear from you.

One thing is for sure, my flock will
Have a lot of bling this summer!

14 from my 100 slacker chickens :( hope it gets better soon theyre lucky its Lent now

Depending on how old your slackers are you may not get more than 20 at a time. The first year the birds generally lay the most eggs. IE: my Azure laid an egg a day. Now at coming three my last remaining Azure I think is laying 3 times a week.

My flock in general by the time they are 3 lay about 3 or 4 eggs a week in good weather, in winter they go fallow.

By 4 they are down to 2 eggs a week, and by 5 yrs old they only lay a couple eggs a week and only during the Spring flush.

My old 8 yr old hen Blanche is laying an egg about every 3 or 4 days right now. But soon she will go fallow again.

Please dont take that as I dont love my girls. All are under 3 years old, except 12 that came from my friend who died and they get a pardon and will live out their lives here rent free ❤️❤️ we have mostly 20 weekers-2 year olds right now
