Well I've been giving them more food in a dish in the run in the mornings and I've noticed an increase in egg production so maybe they weren't getting enough inside the coop and not enough to eat in the yard?
I have a metal feeder the 12 pound kind maybe they don't like eating out of it?
What kind of feeder do ya'all use?
8 yesterday and one day 13. I noticed that the older dels are laying again especiall the one that lays freaky shelled eggs. Dels are important cause I intend to hatch my own replacements. Cept I still need some new stock for my gene pool. Hint, hint. roosters ok.

I have a kitty litter plastic pan I use as my feeder in the chicken run, I fill up a coffee can of layer crumbs and dump it in there twice a day... then I throw a coffee can full of scratch out for them in the run......... then I let them free range, and they come and go and eat what they want. They get treats too, but not everyday.

We get anywheres from 15-20ish eggs a day

Jen, I was looking for another feeding pan for my hens and you just have me an idea. I never thought about the kitty litter pan. Thanks. Great idea and inexpensive!!! I had my eye on a rubber feeder pan at the feed store and it was $9.00. So, I will get the kitty litter pan at Wal Mart today.

11 eggs and I gave the flock a pumpkin for a treat. I have 11 rir's starting to take up to the nest box's hope they lay soon the I should be up to about 2 doz a day.

20% increase in production, got 5 yesterday.
Still waiting on Little Blackie, Dark Red, Dumplin and Big Jim Brown.

They were hatched April 1. I have 7 hens and usually get 5-6 eggs per day. The past three days I have only gotten 4-5 eggs..... I too thought my girls were slacking. Well today, I got the shock! I weigh each egg each day, so I know how they are doing. Normal range for my girls is 42 - 52 grams. The largest egg ever was 56 grams. Today I got an egg that was 82.1 grams.....I swear it looked fake next to the rest of them. Anyone know if this is normal???? I would love to get some thoughts from all you experienced chicken people

The store bought free range organic eggs Jumbos are about 55 grams each. The cheapest XXXJumbo store eggs are about 75 grams each. I thought I was just about reaching a normal range for free range organic eggs, especially with my girls only being 7 months old.

Now this was a record breaker!
