How many Eggs did you Sell today?

Hey kuntry...how are all your chickens doing on your end? Mine are staying as warm as they can since we closed the coop (it was an open air coop bc we usually don't get this darn cold lol) 5 eggs a day still...3 guinea..1turkey..1chicken...ughhand I expect it to stay this way for a couple weeks now because of all this craziness...

all chickens are great!!! i have a lot of new babies that are under the heat lamp outside. i average about 2 1/2 to 3 dozen a day. i'm looking forward to warmer weather and more baby chicks. my coops are open air coops as well, so i am putting tarp up around them to keep them as warm as possible. this cold weather is not good.

I took in another 4 dozen this morning from our 19 Gold Comets and just like yesterday they were history within ten minutes of me getting to my office. Everyone returned a carton so they went for $3.00/dz. It pays for the feed. I was off last week so our inventory built up over the holidays. I still have another four dozen in the fridge with at least another dozen coming today that I can count on. We've been really lucky even with this miserable cold weather we're having in the Carolinas that our Gals are laying 16 to 19 big brown ones each and every day. These GC's are real work horses, they are!!!

My co-workers are very happy to pay out $3.00/dz but I may be charging too little. I was in one of our discount supermarket chains we have here in NC the other day and they had EggLand's best organic brown eggs for $4.49/dz. There were other local brown organic eggs for $3.99/dz as well. At the Harris-Teeter supermarket which is an upscale store they sell theirs for $4.99 and 4.49/dz. Even WallyWorld sells their's for $3.99/dz. We're going to look at it again in the Spring. One thing we're going to do is to add another 17 GC's to make it an even 3 dozen in the Spring. Teresa wants to start selling some of the stuff we grow and make at the local farmers' market on Thursdays this year. We're also going to add some bees but they won't be making enough until next year at the earliest. And she's talking about goats now. She's already named our little mini-farm 'Miss Teresa's Chicken Ranch, Just A Lil' Ole Bitty Pissant Country Place' after the movie 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas'.
