How Many Eggs Should I Be Getting? Ease My Anxiety

I am very new to the whole business of egg collection, and although I've spent two years researching having chickens at all, I'm so anxious about the whole business that I feel like I know nothing.

Over the past three weeks, my pullets have all started laying. I have 3 bantam brahma girls, 2 easter eggers, 2 wyandottes, and 2 orpingtons. I also took in 5 one year old hens: 3 golden sex links, 1 olive egger, and 1 random white chicken (still trying to identify her breed... claimed to be "New Zealand White Hen" so I'm thinking she's an Austrawhite). They're fresh out of quarantine, and I received my first egg from that bunch today- one from the olive egger.

I'm averaging 3-5 eggs per day. 1 bantam egg, 1 egg from an orpington and/or a wyandotte, and 1 egg from my easter eggers. That's a normal, decent rate of eggs to be receiving, right? Especially in the early days of laying? I think I'm overthinking it. My daughter dropped the first egg she collected, and they all promptly devoured it, so now I'm totally paranoid about egg eating.

I have 10 that I know have started laying, I get about 6-7 eggs a day right now. A few are brand new layers and don't lay an egg everyday yet. It should increase as everyone gets settled. If you post photos of your mystery bird under "What Breed or Gender" someone will help you figure her out!

It'll take time for everyone to work out the new layer kinks and acclimate to their home. Depending on age they may not all be laying yet either. Give them time to adjust, everything will be fine.

I have 7 chickens. One doesn't count because she's broody. It's hot and humid. Yesterday I got 0 eggs, the 3 days before and again today I got 4 or 5 eggs each day.

I wouldn't worry about egg numbers right now. Quite often when a hen gets a new home, they may quit laying for several weeks till they feel at home and comfy in their new place. And your little pullets that have just started laying may take several months to get up to speed. Try to have a little bit of patience, before you know it you will be up to your eyes in eggs and giving away extras! Good luck with your new babies! :wee
