The coop is 8' X 8' and will house 12 chickens. There is a run - 8' X 12'. I do not plan to put a feeder out in the run, only in the coop. How many feeders and what size(s) should I put in the coop. I may eventually end up putting a range feeder out in the run if it becomes necessary but I do not plan to start out that way.

Thanks for the input.

One feeder is enough, they'll take turns eating. Low in pecking order will wait for breakfast, even though they peck and scratch all the time they really only feed heavily a few times a day to fill crop. Our low in pecking order birds feed early at dusk and go to roost first but are made to wait to feed in morning.

A big feeder like this will support 6 or more birds at one time, they'll fill their crop in less than 5 minutes to allow others to feed. http://www.google.com/products/cata...=X&ei=kzmYT5H-H4jY0QGSxfy8Bg&ved=0CJgBEPMCMAc

I always have 2 feeders and 2 waterers, even if they are just low bowls. I put them in the coop, in the run, and outside where they free range. They use them all, too. The more meek ones need more opportunities to eat.

I have a large feeder and waterer outside the coop and 2 small hanging feeders inside for my younger girls since they are still learning where the big feeders are and I have a PVC feeder in the small divided section of my coop but all water is outside and I toss out hen scratch in the morning when I first let them out.
