How many gens can a chicken hold silkie feather gene

Thanks @DarJones! I really want to create silkie feathered specimens of breeds already exist, if possible! though that dream is faraway cus i live in the city

Silkie genetics are fun. The genes can give funky results. The polydactly gene can throw 12 toes instead of 5 sometimes.

The Silkied Feather gene is recessive like mentioned above. It needs 2 copies to show. My Giant Silkie project chicks 2 hatched with silkied feathers, & 2 with smooth feathers, but carries 1 copy.

I'm only on my 2nd generation. Gonna be replacing my older Brahmas next year. They've slowed down.

Gonna jump to Silkie X Malay next year, to continue with large size.

Shortest answer is indefinitely. But you'dnever know without test breeding if a bird had a copy or not

Next year I'm working on a silkied Phoenix.

If you wanted a tall bird with silkie feathers, I'd suggest indigo giantes (sp? It's too early for this ) but it would take years to get the size back there and the feathering right
