Hi all,

We have two roosters and five hens . We have two coops, one of which is empty. I'm puzzled at how many hens I should put with my roosters so the two won't fight over the girls. Any advice? Thanks so much!

I have 16 hens and one rooster. I'm hoping to double my coop in a couple years to get more chickens and then I will need one more rooster.
My sister has close to 50 hens with 3 roosters.
If you have two different coops and they don't free range, they wouldn't be able to fight but your ladies might become overly mated being that there are only 5 hens for the 2 boys.

How large are the different coops? Are they with one connected enclosed run? Do they all free range together? There is no set number, but if I were having a roo, I would have over 10 hens before getting one, with over 10 hens per rooster moving forward.

If they have all been raised together they may not fight at all, but as others have said, overbreeding could become a problem. As others said, the more hens to each rooster, the better.
