How many nest boxes will I need?

We have 9 laying hens, soon to be 12. we have 6 boxes and every so often the chickens switch boxes. we will have like 3 boxes that always have eggs and then a few months later, its like they choose new boxes. i also have about 6 inches of space between the boxes and the wall, and one of my chickens started laying an egg there, so i always know weather she layed or not cuz that is only her spot. lol

yeah thanks for asking.... my planned 3-4 chicks has turned into 13 as of today, with 2 more next week.
