How many nest boxes?

This might be a dumb question but its my first time with chickens. They are all 18 weeks old, no eggs yet. However I was wondering how many next boxes I should have? I currently have 3, with straw and a golf ball in each

I have 7 pullets. Should I have more nest boxes??

Three boxes for seven gals should be just fine. All seven of my standard hens prefer one nest box. (We have four, but they all use one)

Most people do one nest box to three hens. If you have a large flock, then more is better, in case some are picked on and can't get too close to the others laying. For your situation two or three nest boxes will do. Whether you're buying or not, it's a worthwhile investment to get more than 3 nest boxes. You will probably get more chickens (a likely assumption for nearly anyone on this website

) and you will need them eventually. If you buy one from a company like Meyer hatchery or something. They will charge around $100

for two then around $20 more for each additional, so if you only got a couple, you would be paying a lot of money the next time.

You should have a nesting box for every 3 to 4 hens. So yes you should be fine.
