How many nesting boxes for 4 chickens?

I have 4 Buff orpingtons. How many next boxes (sections) should I make for them? I was thinking 12"x12"x12" per bird would work, but not sure if they "share" a box or not.

Any help is appreciated!

If that's all your ever going to have then two boxes is all you need. If you ever plan on getting more then plan accordingly! (honestly you really only need one for every three birds I think) they love to share!

They love to share, but sure fuss a lot when they want to use the nest that a fellow hen is using at that moment. I have 16 nesting boxes for 47 hens and they use a total of 5. It's crazy I swear.
