How many nesting boxes??

I have 4 brahma hens, 3 bantam brahma hens, 5 jersey giant pullets, 1 australorp hen and 1-2 barred rock pullets. How many nesting boxes should I have in the coop?

They all pile in the same ones, chickens are nuts.

I have 9 pullets. I have 3 nesting boxes. They all squish in and lay in the same box. It's ridiculous.

I have 4 nests and have had up to 16 layers.
Put a fake egg in each nest to help 'spread the love'.
They use all the nests, tho there are daily favorites and sometimes traffic jam squabbles.

I had 3 nests for 10 chickens and half of them started laying around the yard. I added 3 more nests, now I get all eggs in the coop again.

4-6 nestboxes until someone goes broody. (With that list of breeds, some will probably go broody.)

Then either move each broody to a wire cage for a few days to break the broodiness, or have one nest per broody plus a few more for the active layers to use.

A hen who needs to lay an egg may sit in the nest for a bit, but then she gets off an lets someone else have a turn. A broody hen wants the entire nest to herself, all day and all night.
