How many nesting boxes?

Just curious how many a person needs. My father in law said if they have a favorite they will wait in line for it. But I want to make sure I have an adequate amount for them.

We have 20-25 layers and have 4 boxes so far. They don't use them yet so we can still build some.

The ratio is one box for every four birds. Some use less, a few use more. Your father in law is right, they like to use the same one everyone else is using. It helps to put decoys in different boxes

Den in Penn I heard the same thing: every 3-4 chickens needs 1 box. It is reccommended to have at least 1 chicken per box.

I have a 5:1 ratio. Seems to work fine.

All my hens use the same nest box every day. Sometimes they even fight over it!
