Marigold layed her first egg! It was actually on the 12th, but it was a small, dark green fairy egg. She's an olive egger! It's about half the size of a regular egg, but they will probably get larger.
This is Marigold's egg next to a regular one.
Edit: I just noticed I never updated this, but Moon lays a nice size green egg now.
Today I saw the largest egg chicken egg I have ever seen.
It came from either my BSL or Plymouth Rock, but either way its very impressive, especially for a 4 1/2 year old hen!
Need to do more hawk prevention on the chicken pen-
Everyone was free ranging in the backyard last Saturday and an eagle attacked. They ran under the trampoline which probably saved there lives. The eagle got stuck inside the trampoline and the chickens escaped. The next day, I saw THREE circling above the neighbor's house. It's time to take some new hawk/eagle prevention measures.
On Saturday we also got our first egg in months! Store bought eggs can't compete with fresh ones. Thanks, L.T. In this picture you can see all the chicks. Their mom(s) Bullet and Flag, are on the left. Then it's Tequila and Thor, and Flash and Moon. Marigold is in the front.
We re-homed the boys on Saturday. It's a good place. Tequila slept on the roost for the first time Wednesday. Moon is the only chick who has not tried to sleep on the roost. They are 15 weeks now, and still follow their mom like babies. Both Bullet and Flag still call them over for treats. Aren't they supposed to be on their own by now?
