how many like 50% of eggs make it? i am getting like 6-10 silkie eggs and i am wondering how many will live...ok thanks and 1 more thing, what is candeling?
I think it's random. There are just too many factors to figure in with eggs, like fertility, genetics, nutrition, shipping, incubator, heat, humidity etc.
Candling is shinning a light through an egg to see the development of the embryo.
Your going to be candling your eggs to make sure the embryos or chicks are growing......You turn your eggs 3 times a day, and off number of times not even like 2....day 7 using a candler or good flashlight with the room darkened to see the growth in the egg...you should see veins and an eye on day 7...by day 14 when you candle your chick should be darkening mass and you see movement...by day 18 when you candle the chick will be large, moving sometimes and your air cell should be visible at the large end of the egg...
You always take out eggs that are clear, that means there is no growth happening, if you are uncertain leave the egg til day 14 by then you will know for sure if nothing is growing in the egg...
Everyone is right...with shipped eggs you take a chance of none hatching or just a percentage....I've had 90% down to none with shipped eggs...
At the top of the page here there is a Learning Center thread...click that...lots of helpful information on your first hatching and candling....or just asked all of us will help you as much as we can...
