How Many of You Eavesdrop on Your Coop???

I recently bought a used Sony BabyCall monitor on eBay and put it in my coop so I could eavesdrop on the girls. I have the receiver in the living room so I can listen to it as I work.

I had no idea it would be so entertaining! Man, they are NOISY! They clunk, they bang, they coo and cluck and squeal and even honk like a goose. I love hearing the egg songs (although they don't often coincide with laying of eggs, I've discovered). The other day they were all clucking and bukgawking until I got to laughing and had to go out and see what was going on. Yes, somebody had just laid an egg.

My original intent was to monitor them at night in case of a predator attack, but I'm having so much fun listening to them all day long!

How many of you have monitors, and how do you use them? I think we BYCers are a great market for no-longer-needed baby monitors!!

Ha ha ha! I eavesdrop on my chickens by sneaking around the back and peeking into one of the windows, but I never thought to use a baby monitor to listen in on them. That must be pretty funny!

I watch them on the coop cam we have set up, but no audio, I wish we had audio too......maybe I'll have to look for a used baby monitor, great idea!

I've used baby monitors for years now. Only time it's a pain is when the roosters occasionally crow at 1-3 a.m.

Funny...

yesterday my son told me that there was all this commotion out in the coop and that I'd better go check it out b/c it didn't sound good. So, I quietly walked up to the coop to peek in (they have such good hearing) and there they were, all standing on the roost bars singing while looking up. They, of course heard my eyes looking at them, and all shut up instantaneously and didn't move a muscle...just their eyes to look at me in the window...they are so funny!

We have a camera in the coop also and it does have audio, so I have the window open on my desktop all day long. I don't always have the audio on, but they are fun to listen to when I do!

I can see my chickens from my kitchen and deck so I eaves watch often Been meaning to get monitor, just haven't gotten around to it.
