They gross me out after a meal. Their big crops are so heavy they have to sleep it off!

That's awesomeI too free-ranged my Cornish X for the past two years. They were so cute to watch as they waddled around outside scratching and chasing bugs and acting like real chickens. They have no fat on them and their legs are solid by doing it this way. The thighs and drumsticks are rich red muscle instead of flabby tasteless cage chickens. They were waiting at the door of the coop in the morning and would play outside all day. I would fill their troughs in the coop in the evening and they would all go running in for the night. We processed them at between 8 and 12 weeks - took that long to get them all done, and they dressed out between 7 and 12 pounds. I have two freezers full of excellent meat. They acted so happy being out with the other chickies and had a good, if short, life!
I do kill mean roosters, but I can't blame them for defending against sudden new chickens, kwim. There is always the establishing of a pecking order that is difficult to watch, and I'm not subjecting the chicks (since mine go out at 10-14 days) to that. I like to take it nice and slow, and so, it works better for me to give the meaties their own ranging area and the rest of the birds their area. This is a trait that warrants death here.
You can clearly see my boys are very good with themBecause if they aren't, they are taking a long walk to the freezer.
I've seen this, and it's oh so true in my case.Aoxa, saw this video and thought of you....best YT vid ever!
