How many of you use foodgrade DE?

I use the deep litter method in both of my coops. When I get ready to turn the shavings, before adding fresh, I sprinkled DE over everything - the shavings, the roosts, the tops of the nestboxes - stir the old shavings, then add the fresh shavings on top.

Ditto what he said...Just dust it in there whenever I throw new bedding down.

We use DE, just got our new 50b bag in fact. It goes in the run, the goat stall, around the building exterior, inside the coop sprinkled on the sand, roost, window sill ect. Adding it to the sand in the coop is great for when they dust bath and keeps no smell at all.

I am in agreement with everyone...We use DE and not only are there no lice, mites, fleas..but there is virtually no odor at all in the runs or coop. I love the stuff!!!

I use it. I spritz the floor of their house and nest boxes with it when I change the pine shavings.

I also sprinkle it liberally in the holes where they dust bath.

My girls are 5 1/2 months old so I haven't been at this too long. But thankfully, no signs of mites. Not sure if it's because of the DE or the mites just haven't come yet. Bought the food grade just in case they decided to eat it. And they do peck at it before I get a chance to mix it in with the sand in their dust bath holes.
