OK here are some pics of Juan our Columbian colored silkie. He was bred by Cathryn Walden, and was a result of a Buff/Lavender cross.

Just goes to show that you never know what you get when you cross colors! I brought him home for my husband as a joke. He had been looking for Columbian Wyandottes for some time, so when I saw Juan I had to buy him. I told my hubby that I had found him a Columbian, we was happy for about 2 seconds. Then he saw him! He was like, WHAT IS THAT!!!! I told him, your new bird! Needless to say, he has gotten his wyandottes since then, and well Juan has been here since then. He really is more of a decoration and a conversation piece when someone comes to the house to see the rest of the flock.
April

He is a very interesting color

just not quite columbian

Not really... but as close as you can get with a purebred silkie. If he had color in his hackles, well then we would be talking true columbian. But like I said old Juan is just for decoration,we don't breed him, he is the roomate for our partridge cock.

Sissy - I'm going to have one or two spare roos from CJ in black or blue - if you're interested in them free to grow out, let me know. I'll be sorting them in the next couple months.

I had a couple that were closer, but I think yours has a better build that Sparkle did; Sparkle had no gold--pure black & white. I sold him several years ago. Someone posted a photo a month or so ago of one that was very columbian. It would be a great project to breed the completely proper columbian colour into silkies

The interesting part about the Gold in the hackles is that it just showed up after his last molt. He didn't have it for well over a year. I wonder if it was from the feed. Just like when you feed ducks (White Pekin)corn or other grains and they molt in the colors from the grain.
