How Many People Raise Chickens in Residential Area?

I'm allowed 25 chickens/roosters, one horse per acre, five dogs and/or 5 cats or a mix, total of five. Howver, the lady down the road has 3 horses, 11 cats and 5 dogs on 1/2 acre, yikes

They actually started off with 8 hens and 1 banty roo. A predator came in and took 1 every other night, never came back for the last hen. I've offered to take in the 1 left, but they don't want to give it up. Their run is not very secure so maybe more is not such a good idea. Short life spans there.
I'm sure I could get by with more than 5, but 4-5 is enough for my needs. When I'm down to 2-3 I go get more.

Umm......wow. Sounds like your neighbors are either dumb as a stump, or want their chickens to be eaten by predators, or both.

Could be! LOL!
Actually they just don't see the chickens as pets or valuble.
I was a little annoyed that they didn't warn me that there was a predator close.

Imp- explains why one of their cats has moved in with me.

I live in a residential area, where we all have long, thin gardens, and every house is attached to one other (semi-detached). The neighbours have never complained about my girls

We are in the county, but zoned as a subdivision. About half the residents own chickens, but the zoning forbids livestock. Not only do residents have chickens but donkeys, cows, and other farm life. I do not think the county is to focused on enforcing zoning laws. I would imagine most people in this area do not know the zoning restrictions, I would not had I not read the zoning regs. We(chicken owners) don't foresee any problems.

We live in a suburb of Dallas and we have 7 month old chicks. When I first brought up the idea to my husband, he had me do all the research into the legal side of it. In Dallas, they don't care how many hens you have as long as there isn't a horrible odor. Roosters are a no-no. I've had a person i used to work with argue over it with me, trying to claim I was doing something illegal, but he also really believes Asian's eat dogs and cats. He's very closed minded.
