How many people who buy "show quality birds" actually show them??

I purposely bought show quailty potential eggs to hatch out. Then I showed them to make sure they are truly 'show quality'. They were! And now I'll take their offsping to be shown this fall, to make sure that I've kept the best of the hatchlings.

I'm using to showing to make sure that I correctly understand the breed standards and am choosing the keepers correctly.
It's not only to help me be more confident, but also getting rid of all those why-do-you-have-chickens people! They all back off when I say I'm showing them. Apparently having eggs isn't a good enough reason for some people?

I don;t know what you mean by this

I want my birds to look good, have good top hats, pretty frame... but "painted" more like a normal chicken rather than just one uniform color. some of the prettiest birds I have seen on here arn't pure white, black, or buff.

If the colors are not of a recognized variety, they are not to "show standard". I believe you mean that you're breeding to improve the type without any regard for color?
