OK, my suspect baby sure enough turned out to be a roo.

However, unlike the roo I had a couple of years ago (who started to crow around 3:30 AM and never stopped ALL DAY LONG), this little boy seems to be unusually quiet (I'm not complaining, believe me!

). Just when the sun comes up, he'll crow a few times for about 10 minutes, then he's all done. Some mornings he doesn't make a peep, which makes me think something has happened to him in the night!
So, how many quiet roosters do you know?

Yes, another good boy. We have a 20 week Buff Orpington that free ranges with his girls from about 6am. on but does not start crowing until about eight. Though lately he has been singing the egg song, I guess he wants all of the attention.

Hey there,

I have had a couple 'quiet' roosters that have only crowed maybe twice a day....And I've been keeping chickens for about 19 years (and that number alone scares me lol)...
But generally, from what I've had in roosters over the years, the younger roosters are the noisiest---crowing the most often. And as they got older (at least mine), they crowed a lot less.

My 6 month old roosters crow the most...
but my 2-4 year old roosters rarely crow at all.

But this could be very different with others' birds. But I would have to say they will crow less as they age.

Take Care,
Bill.

I hope he stays quiet- he's only 15 weeks, which I know is still young. Luckily he has no other roos around to compete with.
My neighbors seem happily oblivious; they never minded my last boy either. It was me who couldn't take it! That made me feel even worse when I had to rehome him.

I have a seven month RIR rooster who crow ALL DAY LONG. Wish I knew of a quiet breed of rooster. I would get one in a minute. I can't bring myself to get rid of my noisy one, however. He is too beautiful.

Ha ha, none! All of mine like to grace us with their voices any time light shines on them be it the sun, a flashlight, the back porch. I'm willing to bet even a candle would have them at attention.

I have a quiet EE Roo (knock on wood) which I have to say I am very happy about as my neighbor's boys more than make up for the quiet space in the General's crowing routine lol. He sometimes crows in the morning, may get into a contest (depending on in there is something in the area) with my neighbor's roos, and he usually crows for me when I come home from work.

After hearing how my neighbor's behaved I was so scared for when my boy finally crowed, I have to say for not wanting a Roo I really do enjoy having him around

We have two roosters, an EE and an Ameraucana. They're both incredibly quiet. Our Ameraucana flock is quite close to the house and we're never bothered by him. Both roosters are also extremely gentle with us but excellent protectors of their girls. It's taken awhile for us to find these gems. Definitely keepers, both of them.

Edited to say: I better knock on wood, too!

The only quiet ones I've ever had are the ones lower in the pecking order. When there's a dominant Roo, the others may never crow. But other than that, if you only have one Roo, he's gonna holler!
