How many roosters can I have?

I have 4 barred rock hens and a rooster. I also have around 17 australorp chicks around 16 weeks. I have counted around 10 or so hens from the bunch, and the rest are roosters unfortunately. I wanted to keep 2 roosters out of the bunch and give the rest of the roosters away. Is it possible to add my 2 roosters in with my barred rock rooster to have 3 in total? My barred rock rooster is a nice guy, but I’m not sure if 3 is possible in my flock. I am also hatching out some more barred rock chicks this week, and I am hoping to add more hens from my hatch.

Idk if having 3 together is a good idea. That may result in fights.Starting a rooster flock might be a good option.Pretty much a rooster flock works because they don’t have any hens to fight over so they get along pretty well you just have to be careful and keep an eye on them.

I thought about that and I will probably have to do that. Would 2 be okay in a flock with about 15 hens or is it still a bad idea? I am new to chickens so I haven’t had much experience.

I would leave the barred rock flock alone for now, and just start a new rooster flock with the Australorp roosters. If you have room in the barred rock coop you could put the Australorp hens in there and maybe introduce one of their brothers with them. If you don’t want any more roosters, I would’nt suggest hatching more chickens.

I’ve had multiple roosters before and sometimes they get along fine and sometimes they fight. It all just depends on their personalities. I don’t think it would hurt to try it. And I don’t think they need to be kept away from the hens to do so. As long as they are raised together they stand a better chance rather than you just throwing them together at adulthood. Have these chicks been raised near or with the others?

My barred rock rooster is around 1.5 years old and the other 2 I am wanting to add are 16 weeks and are brothers. The coops that I have them separated by are right next to each other. In fact, they see each other every day and are only separated by chicken wire. I catch my barred rock roo and my 4 bigger hens watching my younger chicks every day!

That’s good they can see each other! That will help a lot.

Twice I’ve bought from the pullet bin, and twice I’ve been disappointed about a month later. Just saying.
